Make $400 Per Hour…
Recently I noticed my Charter Cable bill had crept up again from around $45/month to about $70/month. So I called in twice with no luck. Twice because I thought if I talked to a different customer service person, that might work. I mentioned the bill had crept up and that I may have to consider other options (competitor).
They replied, saying there was nothing they could do and that their hands were tied. Which surprised me, because I was expecting them to lower the price some to keep me as a customer.
So I scratched my head and thought now what am I going to do? I didn’t want to pay the high cable bill and I still wanted to have my internet service. Otherwise how am I going to write content for Income Wizards and also run my ProPaintDrywall.com site, which is the marketing hub for another business of mine.
There are lots of stuff that I do online, such as my online banking, email, social media, etc. I’m sure you have a lot of things you use your internet service for as well.
And going with a competitor, for me is not the best option, because in my area AT&T Uverse, for example, is not even available in my area. Yes there is AT&T service but it too slow to even run YouTube videos, but Charter don’t have to know that, right? 🙂
And even if they do know that, do they know that i might just quit the internet service all together? Well maybe if they read this article they might. Ha ha.
So I’m thinking… “How can I?” Right? At this point, many people would probably say “I can’t” and just give up. They would just suck up the cost and go on about their life. But I’m thinking… time to call their bluff. I called and requested to cancel service. They directed me to the right department to cancel. And what do you know. ..
…The guy said, well lemme see if I have an option for you that the other department doesn’t have available to them. (clever ‘save face’ statement)
And he said, how about we drop your bill down $10/month and ramp up your internet speed by almost double? I’m like, hell yeah dude.
So a new modem is on it’s way via FedEx and internet speed is increased but will not be utilized until I receive the new modem and install (easy installation).
Now I suppose I could have taken it a step farther and found out how much AT&T U-verse is and try to get more of a discount, closer to their price. But well… I got a discount and speed is supposedly getting better.
IMO, charter needs to make a profit to stay in business. And I’m comfortable with my savings. You however may wish to squeeze even more pennies out of the deal. And get it down to rock bottom price, whether that be $45/month or what have you.
So I figured out how much I saved hourly. It did take me longer because i had to make 3 phone calls. You however after reading this article will only have to make one phone call or at most two calls.
If it was me, I would make two calls. One to customer service or whatever option they give you on the phone to talk about adjusting your plan or pricing. And if that don’t work, call to cancel service department. That’s where the real magic happened for me.
If you want to, just call to cancel, that may be the fastest results to get your monthly statement lowered. So the whole calling and negotiating process should take you about 10 or 15 minutes. Add up your savings for the year and divide that by 10-15 minutes…
You will make yourself about $400/hour. A good ROI (return on investment) of your time. Time WELL spent, my friend.
